The Blue Yusef Lateef LP

Yusef Lateef treated a jazz band like a world map, working shehnai and koto and oboe in alongside the usual horns, and The Blue Yusef Lateef is where that experiment gets a soul-jazz chaser. Joel Dorn produced it at RCA Studios with Blue Mitchell, Sonny Red and Kenny Burrell backing him, The Sweet Inspirations adding vocal muscle to the grooves. AllMusic later called it some of the most accessible experimentation of the decade, and this reissue proves the point on 180 grams.
