The Best of Miles Davis & John Coltrane (1955-1961) 2LP

This compilation covers Miles Davis and John Coltrane's run from 1955 to 1961, the stretch that produced Davis's First Great Quintet and the sessions behind Kind of Blue. Three pianists split the credit: Red Garland's block chords carry the quintet years, Bill Evans shapes the modal turn on "So What" and "Blue in Green," and Wynton Kelly sits in for part of the Kind of Blue dates. One stop through one of the most influential stretches either man ever recorded.
