The trick here: this is billed as a Chet Baker Sings record, cut in 1958 at Reeves Sound Studios for Riverside with Kenny Drew on piano and rotating bass and drums, yet Baker keeps ditching the trumpet solos for scat instead, which is either a vocalist finally trusting his own instrument or a trumpeter hiding from it. A 2010 Original Jazz Classics reissue tacked on four extra tracks, two of them takes that didn't make the original cut. AllMusic has called it essential; the record itself seems more interested in changing the subject.
