Out of the Blue LP

Blue Mitchell cut Out of the Blue on January 5, 1959, for Riverside with a band stacked three deep at every chair: Benny Golson on tenor, Wynton Kelly and Cedar Walton splitting piano, Paul Chambers and Sam Jones trading off on bass, Art Blakey driving it from the kit like a piston that never missed a stroke. AllMusic's Scott Yanow called it an enjoyable, high-quality hard bop date, no more and no less. This Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive presses it on 180-gram vinyl in a tip-on jacket.
