Tyranny 2LP

Julian Casablancas walked away from the Strokes' sound and dared anyone to follow him into Tyranny, the noisy, genre-scrambling debut he built under his own Cult Records with a band first billed as Julian Casablancas + the Voidz. "Human Sadness" sits at the center, almost eleven minutes long and daring the record to hold together. Critics split hard, some calling it a mess, others a statement, but nobody mistook it for another Strokes record.
