Call Takipnik 'synth rock' and you undersell the whole record, this Denver duo blends synthetic and live instrumentation into something heavier than that label implies. Awakened splits itself down the middle on purpose: side A holds the vocal-driven alt-metal songs, side B goes fully instrumental and post-metal, a structural trick more ambitious than anything on their earlier EP The Biggest or debut full-length This Hypocrisy. It's a duo daring you to judge the record by its A-side alone.
