Sundowner LP

Before Steve Gunn was the guy serious guitar nerds name-check, he was just the guy playing behind Kurt Vile in the Violators, and Sundowner is what he made right after, quieter and more wandering than the Matador records that came later. Picture John Fahey, Jack Rose, and Robbie Basho handing him a fingerstyle rulebook and Gunn mostly ignoring the rules part. He'd go on to play with Vile, Mike Cooper, the Black Twig Pickers, and harpist Mary Lattimore, building a reputation as one of the more respected guitarists in American underground folk, but this is him still figuring out which rules were worth keeping.
