Volume 2 LP

Sonny Rollins cut Volume 2 in April 1957 for Blue Note, released that fall with a lineup built for a session like this: J.J. Johnson on trombone, Paul Chambers on bass, Art Blakey on drums, and the piano chair split between Horace Silver and Thelonious Monk. Monk only sits in for two tracks, his own compositions Misterioso and Reflections, with Silver handling the rest. Critics still rank it among the stronger records from Rollins's crowded late-1950s Blue Note run.
