Conor Murphy fronts Foxing, now on hiatus, and built Smidley as a junk drawer for songs that never fit there. Murphy Horse, the third Smidley record, leans on 1980s touchstones like Prefab Sprout and Talk Talk plus newer names like Animal Collective, kind of like raiding your older sibling's shelf and your cousin's playlist at once. Lucy Dacus turns up on “Capstone” and Nnamdi on “Robin Egg,” backed by Brett Torrence, Mitch Renfrew and Jack Middeke. It's pressed on coke bottle clear vinyl.
