Sarah Vaughan and trumpeter Clifford Brown cut this session in New York over two days in December 1954, backed by a tight combo of Herbie Mann on flute, Paul Quinichette on tenor saxophone, and Roy Haynes on drums. Vaughan's controlled, rounded voice against Brown's warm, agile trumpet lines won the record lasting favor with jazz critics, and The Penguin Guide to Jazz singled it out for its warmth and intimacy. Brown died in a car accident less than two years later, at 25.
