Candy Girl LP

Candy Girl is credited to New Edition, but the record tells a different story: Maurice Starr wrote or co-wrote nearly all of it, produced it with Arthur Baker, and played several instruments himself, behind five Boston teenagers he'd assembled into a Jackson 5 tribute act for Streetwise Records. The title single topped the R&B chart and hit number one in the UK, yet barely cracked the Hot 100's top 50 at 46. It's the group's first record, made before their long split from Starr's management.
