Come on Die Young 2LP

Come On Die Young, Mogwai's second album, sounds like the band turning the volume knob down to make the silence louder, Dave Fridmann tracking it at Tarbox Road Studios with the hush of The Cure's Seventeen Seconds and the dread of Slint's Spiderland bleeding into every corner. Chemikal Underground put it out into a split reception, Pitchfork and NME stayed on board while others called it a step down from Young Team, but that quiet is exactly the point. "Punk Rock" opens around an excerpt from a 1977 Iggy Pop interview, and Deafheaven later covered that track and "Cody" together on a split EP, proof the record's reach outlasted the critics who doubted it.
