Filth Pig was Ministry hitting the brakes on purpose: after the sample-dense industrial metal of Psalm 69, Al Jourgensen and Paul Barker slowed the tempos and pulled the electronics out, leaving something heavier and doom-leaning underneath. Guitarists Mike Scaccia and Louis Svitek and drummers Rey Washam and William Rieflin filled out the record, Scaccia's last studio credit with the band until 2004's Houses of the Mole. Critics split hard on it at the time, but it still climbed higher on the Billboard 200 than anything else Ministry released, peaking at number 19.
