Industrial & Noise Vinyl Records

Industrial music set out to be confrontational and never really stopped. Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire invented it in a haze of tape loops and menace; EBM and electro-industrial made it danceable; and the noise end (Merzbow and the harsh-noise underground) pushed it to the absolute edge of what a record can do to a room. This is not background music. It's a section for people who want their vinyl to mean it, and our city has always had a soft spot for the heavy stuff.

What You'll Find Here

Industrial, EBM, power electronics, harsh noise, and the experimental-industrial fringe — on LP and the occasional cassette-era reissue. New pressings and reissues of the canon. Heavy overlap with our Goth & Darkwave, Electronic and Experimental sections. Play loud, apologize to the neighbors later.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between industrial and noise?
Industrial usually keeps some rhythmic or structural backbone (often danceable, as with EBM); noise abandons that for pure texture and intensity. The harsh-noise end is the deepest end of the pool.

Is this listenable, or just punishing?
Both, depending on where you dig. The EBM and early-industrial end is surprisingly catchy; the harsh-noise end is an acquired and committed taste. We can point you to either.

Where does this overlap with other sections?
Goth & Darkwave, Electronic, and Experimental & Oddball all bleed into it. If you're in the dark/heavy zone, dig all four.
