Milt Jackson Quartet LP

Milt Jackson cut this quartet date for Prestige in a single session on May 20, 1955, borrowing his Modern Jazz Quartet rhythm section of Percy Heath and Connie Kay but swapping in Horace Silver for John Lewis on piano, like bringing a different cook into a kitchen that already knows its own recipes. The result is looser and more jam session than Jackson's usual chamber jazz dates, and his ballad work on "My Funny Valentine" is the kind of playing that made his reputation in the first place.
