La Dispute's 2008 debut was recorded at StudiOtte in hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan, for No Sleep Records. Frontman Jordan Dreyer named it for a Chinese folktale about star-crossed lovers, using it as a way into songs about two divorces close to him. Post-hardcore, screamo and post-rock, anchored by his half-sung, half-spoken delivery, it became one of No Sleep's best-selling titles.
