The New Sound 2LP

Geordie Greep stepped out of Black Midi's hiatus with The New Sound and brought more than thirty musicians along for the ride, recording across London and Sao Paulo like he was scoring a telenovela that went wrong halfway through. Prog rock, jazz-rock, bossa nova, samba, and Latin rock all get folded into songs built around satirical character studies of masculinity and desperation. Critics landed on something close to consensus praise, and Rolling Stone later named it one of the year's best indie rock albums.
