Whatchu Bringing? LP

Four heavy-hitters, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, and 9th Wonder, met at LA's Chalice Recording Studios in 2019, and instead of everybody soloing for twenty minutes they cut pocket-sized jazz-soul tracks: the 2020 self-titled EP hit No. 1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart, and the remix companion Dessert picked up a Grammy nod. Whatchu Bringing?, out on Sounds of Crenshaw, leans on producer and singer Phoelix for most of its nine songs, with J. Ivy and 9th Wonder dropping by, less a jam session this time than songs somebody sat down and wrote.
