Soundtrack LP

This soundtrack to Wong Kar-wai's film pulls from everywhere at once: the Mamas and the Papas' "California Dreamin'" on repeat in a Hong Kong fast-food joint, Dennis Brown's reggae parked next to Dinah Washington's jazz. Faye Wong's Cantonese cover of the Cranberries' "Dreams" became the film's signature moment and pushed her toward alternative rock, which later put her in the room with the Cocteau Twins, whose "Bluebeard" she reworked herself. The film became Wong Kar-wai's international breakthrough. Nobody here is coordinating; that's the point.
