Two sessions twenty days apart, December 30, 1958 and January 19, 1959, cut in New York for Riverside. Chet Baker sat in this lineup with Bill Evans on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Pepper Adams on baritone sax, and Philly Joe Jones or Connie Kay behind the kit depending on the date. Baker's name was rising as a singer by then, but there's no vocal here, just trumpet set against that baritone's low end. Nine standard ballads, no Baker original among them, a high point in his cool-jazz run.
