A Boulder duo at the core, Thom LaFond on vocals and guitar and Michelle Pietrafitta on drums, Banshee Tree keeps its footing even as the lineup around them shifts and the sound keeps expanding past its jam-band roots. Violinist Nick Carter left during the sessions for Bad Luck, and saxophonist Jesse Shantor stepped into the gap, pushing acoustic folk into psychedelic funk, jazz, klezmer-edged sax, and flamenco guitar. The songs pull in five directions at once and still land on the beat LaFond and Pietrafitta set down.
