Fortune Favors the Bold is 49 Winchester's fourth album and the first for New West Records, a label that has long housed Americana and roots-rock acts. The band, a five-piece named for their hometown of Castlewood in southwest Virginia, splits the difference between honky-tonk twang and the loose, rowdy swagger of the Georgia Satellites, with frontman Isaac Gibson singing about small-town pull and the grind of chasing a music career on the road. That tension between staying and leaving never quite resolves, and the record doesn't pretend it should.
