Del & the Boys 2LP

Del and the Boys came out in 2001 with the classic Del McCoury Band lineup locked in: Del up front, sons Ronnie on mandolin and Rob on banjo, Jason Carter on fiddle, Mike Bub on upright bass. Their cover of Richard Thompson's "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" turned into one of the band's signature songs, proof that outside songwriters could slot into this group's bloodline bluegrass without breaking it. Del himself cut his teeth on banjo and guitar in Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys back in the 1960s, a lineage that runs straight through every song on this record.
