Stef Chura took seven years between records, and Dancing Alone on the Concrete earns every one of them, following 2019's Midnight. Most of it was cut at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, Georgia with Robert Schneider of the Apples in Stereo at the boards, plus players who passed through Sugar and Now It's Overhead, and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Mike Mills turn up on Danny like old friends dropping by unannounced. Chura has called the record a search for love through a broken engagement, several moves, and new motherhood, one that never quite resolves by the last track.
