Funky Stuff LP

Jiro Inagaki left the jazz-rock of Head Rock behind and went straight funk on this one, cut with his backing band Soul Media for Nippon Columbia. Pianist Hiromasa Suzuki wrote most of it: thick bass, wah-wah guitar, percussion stacked in layers. It came up alongside American funk and soul of the same years, and it's one of the better records to resurface from Japan's 1970s fusion scene. Still holds up.
