Sisters of Mercy are one of the most iconic and genre-defining bands of goth, and one of the most well-known to emerge from goth's second wave, even if singer Andrew Eldritch staunchly denies any connection to the subculture (despite choosing a stage name that references Lovecraftian horror). With hits like Lucretia My Reflection (and its iconic bass riff) and This Corrosion (it is said that every time a goth dies, their voice joins the choir), it's easy to see why.
