Under the Pepper Tree builds its arrangements around upright bass, nylon-string guitar and pedal steel, the physical textures carrying most of Sara Watkins's family record. It's mostly gentle covers she's known since childhood, plus two originals, with her old Nickel Creek bandmates rejoining her on "Blue Shadows on the Trail" and her I'm With Her cohorts singing on "Tumbling Tumbleweeds." It follows her more electric, exploratory solo record Young in All the Wrong Ways, and comes out on New West Records.
