Mercyful Fate's second full-length, from 1984, built on King Diamond's theatrical falsetto and the band's occult, Satan-steeped lyrics. It fused heavy metal with progressive song structures when almost nobody else was doing that, widely counted among the genre-defining extreme metal records of its era, and AllMusic backed that up with a 4.5-star retrospective rating. This Metal Blade pressing puts the Danish band's most influential record on colored wax.
