Equus Asinus CD

Men I Trust named their fifth album after a donkey, which tells you something about a band that's spent two records methodically undermining its own dream-pop reputation. Equus Asinus arrived as half of a planned pair with Equus Caballus (the horse to this record's donkey, same genus, different animal), and the Quebec trio toured them together. Where the group used to lean electronic and chill, here they trade synths for folk instrumentation and swap breeziness for a more melancholic, rainy-day mood, though the murmured vocals and drifting melodies never really left.
