Max came out of the Elastik Band's 1970 split, when David Cortopassi and Scott Williams regrouped as a horn-driven jazz-rock-funk outfit backed by a rotating cast of California horn players. They recorded through the early '70s and never landed a deal, so the Rodan material went out in a tiny pressing that turned into a collector's item by default. Beyond Rodan restores those recordings and adds previously unreleased material from the same sessions.
