One rhythm, run through Lee 'Scratch' Perry's Black Ark board again and again until it threw off a different voice each time: that's the trick this set tours, with Dennis Alcapone, Junior Byles, Augustus Pablo, Big Youth, and Dr. Alimantado all cutting their own version over the same Perry groove. Perry ran the Upsetters as the backbone behind hundreds of Kingston singles through the 1970s, pushing that one-rhythm-many-voices idea further than almost anyone. Culture Factory's reissue returns a slice of that catalog to vinyl.
