King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown LP

Augustus Pablo cut the melodica and keyboard tracks; King Tubby and engineer Errol Thompson tore them apart at the mixing desk and built King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown back up from the pieces. NME slotted it at 96 on its 1985 list of the greatest albums ever made, and Mojo ranked it the second best reggae album on a 2024 list. Historian Steve Barrow put it plainly: a mixing engineer could be as creative as anybody holding an instrument, and here's the proof.
