The Layers LP

The Layers finds Julian Lage opening up his working trio into a quartet, pulling Bill Frisell in on second guitar while Jorge Roeder's bass and Dave King's drums hold the floor. It's a quieter, more exploratory session than some of his other Blue Note dates, built on the friction between two opposite guitar grains: Lage's precise, bebop-rooted lines against Frisell's looser, more weathered touch.
