Squint LP

Julian Lage made Squint, his first record as a leader for Blue Note, with longtime partners Jorge Roeder on bass and Dave King, on loan from The Bad Plus, on drums. The trio meant to roll straight from a Village Vanguard residency into the studio in January 2020, but the pandemic intervened, giving Lage a long stretch to rework the material, like a chef sent back to the test kitchen. They finally tracked it at Sound Emporium in Nashville with co-producers Armand Hirsch and Margaret Glaspy.
