Unchained runs Cash's weathered voice through a band built for friction: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers back him for the second American Recordings installment, with Marty Stuart's guitar cutting across more than half the tracks. Flea plays bass on "Spiritual," and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood show up for "Sea of Heartbreak." Producer Rick Rubin and engineer Sylvia Massy pieced it together over roughly six months, mostly at Sound City Studios, and it went on to win the Grammy for Best Country Album. This is an import pressing.
