Joplin, Janis - Pearl LP

Pearl was cut in the summer and fall of 1970 at Sunset Sound with Paul Rothchild, the producer who'd made his name with the Doors, and it's the only studio album Janis Joplin made with the Full Tilt Boogie Band. She died before it was finished, and her last recorded performance, an a cappella take of 'Mercedes Benz,' made it onto the record near the close of the second side. It spent nine straight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, went quadruple-platinum, and 'Me and Bobby McGee' gave her a posthumous number-one single, numbers that don't need embellishing.
