Sunday at Devil Dirt LP

Sunday at Devil Dirt is the second record Isobel Campbell made with Mark Lanegan, the former Screaming Trees singer with a voice like gravel dragged over concrete. Campbell, who came up playing cello and singing in Belle and Sebastian, produced it herself for V2 Records, following their 2006 debut, Ballad of the Broken Seas. Her hushed folk-pop keeps pulling against his weathered baritone on "Who Built the Road" and "Come On Over (Turn Me On)," and neither side gives an inch.
