Gwenifer Raymond plays instrumental guitar pieces built from Mississippi blues and John Fahey's American Primitive style, close enough to home that some critics just call it "Welsh Primitive." Before any of that, she was a game and AI programmer with a PhD in astrophysics from Cardiff University, until guitarist Doctor Turtle caught her at an open mic and helped get her signed to Tompkins Square in 2017. This LP picked up a Welsh Music Prize nomination and carries the same dark, fingerpicked intensity as the rest of her catalog, proof a physics degree doesn't dull anybody's hands.
