A band that doesn't exist, fronted by animated characters, probably shouldn't have needed Del the Funky Homosapien to sound credible, but Clint Eastwood leaned on his verse anyway, and it became the single that convinced skeptics the joke had teeth. Critics mostly agreed at the time, and the sales followed slower: platinum in the US, triple platinum in the UK, more than seven million copies eventually. Dan the Automator's hip-hop production did the unglamorous work of holding a cartoon together.
