Backlash LP

Hubbard steps off Blue Note and lands hard on Atlantic with this 1967 set, pushing between hard bop and the avant-garde with James Spaulding's alto and flute cutting against his own trumpet. Albert Dailey, Bob Cunningham, and Otis Ray Appleton hold the rhythm section down while Ray Barretto adds percussion on select cuts. AllMusic called it an excellent set full of exciting moments, and the band hits like they mean it.
