Peter Berg temp-scored Lone Survivor with Explosions in the Sky's own catalog, liked the fit enough to hire the band outright, and paired them with film composer Steve Jablonsky to finish the job. The Austin band wrote most of it from home, guitars doing the heavy lifting, while Jablonsky worked the orchestral passages from Los Angeles. What comes out the other end sits somewhere between a band record and a traditional score, atmospheric guitar layered against conventional arrangement.
