Out There LP

Ron Carter plays cello here, in one of his earliest recorded appearances, on Eric Dolphy's second album as a leader for the New Jazz/Prestige label. No piano, no guitar, just Dolphy, Carter, George Duvivier on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums, leaving Dolphy and Carter free to chase harmony without chordal guardrails. Critics still call the open, exploratory feel ahead of its time. This limited pressing tacks bonus tracks onto the original seven-song program.
