Piano, flute, saxophone, organ, and strings sit next to the expected heavier gear in Dreadnought's arsenal, and on Emergence those instruments carry as much weight as the riffs do. It's the Denver quartet's fourth full-length, after Lifewoven, Bridging Realms, and A Wake in Sacred Waves, released through Profound Lore Records, with vocalists Kelly Schilling and Lauren Vieira leading a genre-blind pull between prog, doom, black metal, folk, jazz, and classical music. Five tracks move from chamber-doom hush to blackened intensity and back.
