Live In Ankara LP

Live in Ankara captures trumpeter Don Cherry at the US Embassy in Ankara in November 1969, backed by Turkish musicians Irfan Sumer on saxophone and percussion, Selcuk Sun on bass, and Okay Temiz on drums and percussion. The set folds Cherry's own compositions in with Turkish folk pieces and arrangements of tunes by Ornette Coleman and Pharoah Sanders, putting his trumpet in a stripped-down, exploratory setting far from the quartet jazz that made his name. Sonet Records didn't issue the recording until nearly a decade after it was taped.
