David Axelrod LP

This self-titled album started life as leftover rhythm tracks from a third Electric Prunes record that never got made, and it turned into David Axelrod's return to recording under his own name. He had already fused jazz, rock, and orchestral pop on 1968's Song of Innocence, a record credited with helping coin the term 'jazz fusion,' and his heavily mic'd drums later made him one of the most sampled composers in hip-hop, strip-mined by beatmakers ever since. Now Again, the reissue label built around rare groove material, presses this one up for Record Store Day.
