La Tierra Del Olvido LP

La Tierra del Olvido, originally out in 1995, turned Carlos Vives into Colombia's biggest star by running vallenato's accordion lines through pop and rock arrangements, the combination he helped turn into the tropipop sound. It topped Billboard's Tropical Albums chart in the US and moved roughly 880,000 copies in Colombia alone, a number most rock bands of that era could only dream of. Mixing vallenato covers with some of his first originals in that style, it proved accordion-driven Colombian folk could hold a pop radio slot without losing its roots.
