Blind Lemon Jefferson cut these sides for Paramount in the 1920s and pushed country-blues guitar somewhere it hadn't been, becoming one of the first blues artists to actually sell records while doing it. This Vol. 1 LP was assembled by Johnny Parth for his Austrian label Roots, which spent the 1970s digging through stacks of vintage 78s, before Parth later founded Document Records in the mid-1980s and built it into the reference point everyone else measures prewar blues reissues against. Jefferson's guitar still hits hard enough to carry the whole thing on its own.
