Blue Note shelved this one for decades: Art Blakey cut Just Coolin' on March 8, 1959, with Lee Morgan and Hank Mobley up front and Bobby Timmons and Jymie Merritt holding the bottom. Founder Alfred Lion recorded the same band live at Birdland weeks later and ran that album instead, so the studio tape sat buried while the live set took the spotlight. Blue Note finally dug it out, letting this lineup be heard working it out in the room instead of on stage.
