Nippon Columbia put this out in 1969 under the alias Count Buffalo & His Rock Band, with drummer Akira Ishikawa running a tight combo through jazz-funk rewrites of the day's rock and soul hits. The Beatles' 'Back in the U.S.S.R.' and 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da' get flipped alongside the Supremes' 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' and Booker T. & the MG's 'Soul Limbo.' Ishikawa built a career as one of Japan's busiest session and big-band drummers, and rare-groove diggers now chase this early date hard.
