Secret South LP

David Eugene Edwards and Pascal Humbert met on a film set in Los Angeles in 1992, moved the operation to Denver, and brought in drummer Jean-Yves Tola to round out 16 Horsepower. The trio helped build what people now call gothic country, running alt-country and Americana through bluegrass, gospel and Appalachian instruments under Edwards' religiously loaded lyrics. Secret South, originally out in 2000 on the European label Glitterhouse, carries that sound on "Clogger" and "Wayfaring Stranger." The band broke up in 2005, Edwards went on to front Woven Hand, and the three reunited in 2026.
